Songs You Should Know // December 2017

December 12, 2017

Hello my music loving mates :)

So much has happened since the last time we spoke. I saw countless of my favorite artists in concert, including Portugal. The Man, Kaskade (Redux), Rufus Du Sol, and most notably, ODESZA <3

I also attended SXSW, CRSSD Festival in San Diego, and Austin City Limits, with memories from all of the above that I’ll hold so close to my heart.

I’ve done my best to tell a story of the songs I’ve been listening to since our last meeting, in a way that suggests when to listen to them, and in what order, as a way to best convey to you what life has been like without having to write a huge intro essay :)

Without further ado, let’s turn on, tune in, and drop out.

 S U N R I S E

From the moment the sun starts to creep behind the horizon and a spectrum of reds, pinks, purples and oranges blaze across the sky, to the first sip of a warm cup of coffee, to the weekend mornings when you wake up late and dance around in your underwear as you cook yourself some bacon.

These are the songs.  Start by closing your eyes and imagining your perfect morning to the sounds of “Olson,” by Boards of Canada, and wrap up your daydream with “Hahaha Pt. 2,” by Kishi Bashi as the playlist continues.

“Didn’t I,” by the Stellarians starts our day off here. Whether you’re outside playing volleyball on the beach, walking your dog, snowboarding on a bluebird day, or driving around town running errands, these are the jams to give you the energy you need to thrive.

Finish off this section by dropping everything you’re doing and dancing around to “No Matter Where We Go,” by Whitney.

SUNSET WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN

You all know very well this is my favorite time of day, and of course I saved most of my favorite songs for this moment. Savor it by feeling the wind in your hair and on your skin by blasting “Shaded In,” by filous & Jordan Leser as loud as you can.

Enjoy a cocktail on a patio as the sun dissolves into the horizon, or set the mood as you get ready for the night. No matter where you find yourself at this point, make sure you’ve got someone by your side to dance with you. Finish off with some hip shakin’ grooves at “Sueño en Paraguay,” by Chancha Via Circuito & El Búho

NIGHTFALL

This section ranges everywhere from a night at the disco, a night full of mischievous rendezvous, or a night home alone dropping some bath bombs with room full of candles.

Enjoy accordingly under the light of the moon & stars, starting with “Late Night,” by ODESZA and topping it off with “Everything is Free,” by Sylvan Esso & Flock of Dimes. Bonus includes “Late Night Tales Mix” by The Cinematic Orchestra.

Enjoy dancing your hearts out & I hope to be back with more sweet jams for you to dive into after the new year. Over & out!
